"To hit the ball, the guy makes it look easy, but it ain't. I don't know how you can have that swing, consistently. I don't know how steroids can do that," Ortiz told the Boston Herald. "There are supposed to be guys using steroids in the game, and there's nobody close to Barry Bonds. What's that mean? He was using the best [stuff]? Know what I'm saying?"
"I look at it hitting-wise, because I don't know what steroids can do to you as a baseball player. You've still got to swing the bat, man,"
david, are you an idiot?it doesnt mean he was using the best stuff, it means he already had a lot of skill and he went from really good, to record breaking good by using the juice. mark mcgwire came out a few years ago saying that there is no correlation between steroids and baseball. now, im not on the juice, and i stopped playing baseball because i couldnt hit, but the correlation seems obvious to me. you need some ability to hit a ball. you take that ability, hit the ball, but you can only hit it 390 feet to dead center. now when youre juiced, that same swing has a little more bat speed and that ball now goes maybe 415. instead of a fly out to center, its a home run to center. when in the past you could only hit 20-25 home runs, those warning track fly outs are in the stands. now youve hit 45-50. its not like david eckstein is one syringe away from 60home runs.
when will a baseball player come out and say that? i know jim rome said it a while ago, but a lot of people hate him, so despite his own espn show, he doesnt really get that much publicity. so im hoping that some baseball player who can hit, and isnt as dumb as a shoe, will come out and say it. baseball is like a band of idiots. umpires will blow a call, and then all come together and claim the correct call was made, rather than admit the mistake. if a player comes out and says on the news that he isnt juicing and is willing to take a drug test there on the spot to prove it, the players association will then advise him not to. so i dont know who is a good candidate to do this, but there has to be someone..
as for barry bonds... there was a recent abc poll claiming that there was a racial divide in terms of the publics perception of bonds. then the espn guys calling the giants game started making claims about how most of the public didnt want roger maris to break the record, nor did they want hank aaron. come on. thats a weak attempt at a parrallel. its not that we dont want to see records broken. breaking records saved baseball from the strike shortened, world series cancelling season of 1994. first cal ripken in 95 breaking lou gehrigs record, and then mcgwire and sosa home run fest of 1998. the reason nobody wants to see barry bonds break any records is because hes an ass. he generally acts as if he feels that hes better than everyone else. then add in that the entire world thinks hes a cheater. THATS why nobody wants barry bonds to break any records. people loved ripken breaking that record, people loved mcgwire until it came out he was a cheater, and now his shot at the hall of fame has gone way down hill. if it were mcgwire close to breaking the all time home run record now, nobody would want that either, because while records are made to be broken, nobody wants to see them broken by someone they hate, regardless of race.
