in soccer, you can get a card for flopping. i feel this needs to be a rule in other major sports. if youre playing baseball and you pretend to get hit by a pitch, but you really didnt, that should count as a strike. but thats minor, really it needs to be worked into basketball. obviously, this would have ended vlade divac's career early on before he was ever traded for kobe bryant. but the flopping in basketball is absurd, and something really should be done about that.. i think this rule could help basketball a lot..also in soccer, say someone is offsides, but someone else on his team who is onside gets the pass and then scores, the goal counts. i wonder what football would be like with this rule. if the right defensive end is offside, but the left defensive end gets the sack, it still counts. i kinda like this rule. obviously it would never happen, but i like it. the penalty was away from the play, so why punish the guy that did well? or if you pick up a fumble and start running towards the end zone and then another defensive player 20 yards behind you decides he wants to run over the quarterback.. instead of a roughing call, and bringing the ball back, you still score, because the penalty had no impact on the play. yeah. i like it.
in hockey, when you switch lines, play still continues. what if they did this in basketball? i think id like that. you couldnt wait for a timeout to switch out players, youd have to do it on the fly. slow down your offense, have a guy run in and join everyone else. i think it would be interesting. youd have to go to your bench, so you couldnt like keep 3 players at the defensive end of the court and 3 players at the offensive end and then have 2 do both. thatd be too much to deal with, and would most likely end the need for a set offense. get the ball, have the defensive players get off the court, have the offensive players on the court at the other end, pass the ball, dunk. yeah. definitely too much. but if you move the benches closer to half court and then do this? it would def be interesting!
bring the penalty box to basketball and football. no need to have a player foul out anymore, if they commit a penalty, give the other team a man advantage for a little while. after all, they ARE doing something against the rules. altho in basketball they call so many penalties that this would be crazy. nobody would really know what was going on. and in football give the other team a 11-10 advantage for a little while. yeah. in hockey its like 2 minutes for a minor penalty and 5 for a major, so im thinking in basketball it should be 1 and 3, and then in football you should be out for 1 first down for the other team for a 5 yard penalty, 2 for a 10 yard penalty, and 3 for a 15 yard penalty. im thinking this might not be so great in sports other than hockey, but youd surely watch to see. haha
bring the shootout to baseball. baseball is an extremely long game anyways, so why not ditch the unlimited extra innings and bring on the home run derby. after 9, play say another 2 innings, and if there are still no runs, then have a 5 on 5 home run derby like when a soccer game is decided by penalty kicks. i dont know how it would work for pitching, maybe you have your coach throw gopher balls, because having the other team pitch would end up in a really long, very uneventful home run derby. but this would be a lot more exciting than extra innings. because unless you love baseball, i think youre over a game by the time the 12th inning comes around.when youre playing a team in soccer tournament, like the uefa cup or something, its scored on aggregate, and if there is a tie, the the team scoring the most road goals wins. why not do this for other sports? nba best of 7? play each game, but whoever ends up with the most points wins. baseball? same. haha i dont think this would make other sports better. like if you win 6 baseball games 1-0, but then lose #7 11-3, so now the other team wins? thats pretty lame. and margin of victory isnt really the most telling factor in which team was better, but its worth thinking about.
a couple things really need to be changed. one thing that i would like to see changed is the way soccer is televised vs the major us sports. watch the world cup. cameras high enough so you can see everything, but not so high that it looks like youre watching ants run around, no ass clown sideline reporters (the most important of all), no over analysis, its all WATCHING the game that is going on in front of you. its like a breath of fresh air. haha.the other is how hockey sometimes uses replay officials in a neutral site. at this stage of the playoffs, the conference finals, the replay officials have been moved on-site, but in the previous rounds of the playoffs, the replay officials were in the league office in toronto. this is great. if you watch college football, you probably saw the horrible job the pac10 officials did in the oregon oklahoma game. the call cost oklahoma the game, and as it turns out, had they not lost that game, they wouldve had one loss and most likely would have been in position to play ohio state in the title game, instead of eventual champion florida. and if they werent the team to go, they would have at least been in the conversation. but no, they had 2 "losses" and were not in the title picture. also by having a crew in a neutral site, most likely there would be a set crew that always does replays and nothing else. with the live feeds coming from the games, its not like it would take any longer for this to happen than it would take for replay calls now. just have a crew in a room with a gang of tvs and one crew can do multiple games. in the nfl, they would just need to pay attention to the last 2 minutes and when the phone rings from a challenge on the field. in college, again they just need to pay attention when the refs on the field call for a play to be reviewed. this is more cost efficient,
in terms of the number of refs that need to be hired, and would lead to more effective replay calls. its a win win. obviously this only applies to sports that use replays, so football. basketball reviews so few plays, that they dont need to fix their system.any others?
